Date Hunt Name Hider
2023-06-17 Cedar Ridge Park W6ZM

Summary:

Greg RXX was unable to put on the hunt because of Father’s day plans so W6ZM stepped in as the hider. We found a nice park that was at a dead-end street. It was challenging to find the park because of the series of maze-like streets that surrounded it. The antenna was a four-element Yagi with one watt into the antenna and it was directed straight to the college with high elevation. We heard a good signal while listening to KE6PHB via the cell phone. We assumed that it would be easy to locate the main transmitter, but you know what happens when you assume things. The unusual street location did seem to make it difficult to find the park. We actually had another transmitter on the same frequency to help the hunters locate us. This created a full 30 seconds of transmitter time as opposed to just 15. Check out the pictures of the hunters’ routes to see just how the signal ended up bouncing all over the place. There were three small transmitters located in the park. The first one was held by KM6OUL Robin who handed out frequency cards to locate the two others. Bryan DUR hid one transmitter underneath the fender of the parked tractor. The last transmitter was attached most of the time to our guest hider, Clyde KC6DOG. At some point it could also be found inside of a poop bag that was held by Nikki. The other transmitter was hanging on a bush about 8 feet up on a branch. Hunters arrived as follows: Robert & Tim – 6:29 p.m. Gregg (RXX) - 6:31 p.m. PHB – Joe - 6:40 p.m. SZO & Greg Met us at the restaurant, never found the location which happens to a lot of us sometimes. Our group met up at Mazara’s restaurant which was only a half mile away on 30th Street. The extensive beer, wine and menu items seemed to make everyone happy. We had great service and a good time was had by all. The weather was great and it turned out to be an excellent hunt.
