Summary:

The following is the summary of the "Mobile T-Hunt" for 7-1-2023 and a few photos of the event. Greg, W6BAF and I met at Oggi's Pizza in Santee to drop off my regular hunt vehicle as it would be recognized by everyone. We proceeded to the vicinity of W. Bradley and Pioneer Way and began to set up the 5 W "T". Checked in with Joe, KE6PHB at the start point and he and Greg, KI6RXX could both hear the signal. Robert, N9SCD and Bill, KM6ORF with the new KrakenSDR could not hear the signal. We discussed issues involved with the hunt and then started at 5:05 PM. We leisurely headed out towards the east on Bradley and then up to Pepper and then onto the old Hwy. 80. North to Los Coches and then up to Lindo Lake. We then went over Hwy 67 and were headed towards Riverside Dr. but inadvertently made a wrong turn and ended up going through Eucalyptus Hills, which was "Out of Bounds" but we decided that that loop would give hunters a 10 - 15 minute window to home in on us as there is only two ways in and out of there. Emerging back into the hunt area at Palm Row and Riverside we headed back to Riverford and when going through the intersection of Mission Gorge Rd and Magnolia saw Greg, KI6RXX and Tim, AJ6XP in the left turn lane meaning as soon as they turned they would be directly behind us/. We quickly turned right onto a side street and watched to see if they passed. After what seemed like an eternity we proceeded back to Magnolia and about 100 feet from the intersection we saw them heading north on Magnolia. We headed back to Mission Gorge Rd. and headed west to Cuyamaca, south to Prospect, north on Fanita, east on Weld and then winded around overlooking Grossmont and came back to Cuyamaca. Headed south to Fletcher Parkway, west to Johnson then north to Bradley. Just as we made the turn from w/b Bradley to n/b Marshall we heard KI6RXX claim he had "Spotted" us..... vicinity of Cuyamaca and Marshall....however could not identify the make and color of our vehicle, thought we might we might be a "white Tacoma truck".... So False Alarm. We pulled into a parking lot on Marshall to see if he was close by and saw Robert, N9SCD and Bill, KM6ORF heading west on Bradley. We waited a couple of minutes then acknowledged that we had seen them. We killed about 5 minutes before heading up Marshall to Cuyamaca and turned north heading for the finish line at Oggi's as we had announced that we were heading there for dinner. About the time we reached Prospect, Greg noticed that N9SCD and KM6ORF were right behind us. We waited for an announcement over the radio for a minute or so and then I called them on my HT because I was not sure if they could transmit on the hunt frequency without interfering with their new KrakenSDR system. They responded and identified a "White Jeep" as the Mobile T. Busted in the home stretch at 6:30 or in real time terms 1 hour and 25 minutes since we started the hunt. Not quite a record but still pretty good considering only 3 teams with one team, KE6PHB, working by himself. It does show you what can be done with only 3 teams and some coordination so that when a real life incident occurs we have somewhat of a plan to follow. We had a nice dinner at Oggi's with Karen, KI6FON and Leah joining us. Another successful training session, I am sure everyone is looking forward to next year's hunt (Training Excercise)? 73's Joe N6SZO & Greg, W6BAF
